We Bought 3D Glasses Today

We’re making a game for the Gamma3D event! Gamma is a yearly gathering of independent developers in Montreal organized by Phil Fish. Each year the event is centered around a different theme, and this year’s happens to be stereoscopic 3D.

Chris and I managed to find a good way to do the 3D effect today, so we ran out and bought some 3D glasses at Toad Hall Toys. The game looks awesome in 3D.

Glasses On!

Some folks may remember hearing about my entry into last year’s Gamma, Célu.

And wow, I just made two posts in a row that mention Phil. HAWT.

Alec and Phil are Making an iPhone Game

As mentioned on the Wired Blog recently, Phil Fish and I are working on an iPhone game together!

Phil Fish is the creator of Fez, a very promising indie game that picked up “best visuals” at the Independent Games Festival last year. Phil is also a fellow Canadian – in fact, he’s _French Canadian_, which only adds to his awesome.

I’m using a game engine for the iPhone that I’ve been working on with my friend Mark Johns, for a few weeks now. Its loosely based on the engine that I wrote to make Aquaria, and it lets me put together prototypes of new game ideas very quickly.

As far as the game’s concept goes, we don’t want to give too much away at this point – so I’ll leave you with this quote from Phil: “You play as a little dose of medicine inside people’s bodies, and you have to cure them.”

One Great City

Ah yes, Winnipeg. One great city. The city we here at Infinite Ammo call home. I was born and raised here, and like most other native Winnipeggers, I have a fond love/hate relationship with this place. Even in -30 (That’s Celsius.) there’s something about the unlimited potential of this little city that gets me really excited. Alec moved back here from Vancouver, and Katie moved here from New Brunswick so there has to be some sort of draw, right? Right.

Here’s some views of downtown taken from our office window:

One Great City
One Great Dark City

There’s lots of really neat things about Winnipeg, but here are a some that I particularly like:

* The Weakerthans, a fantastic locally formed band.
* The Legislative Building, secretly built as the largest Masonic temple in North America. Also home of the illustrious Golden Boy.
* The Bike Dump, a volunteer run community bike shop.
* New Media Manitoba, wonderfully passionate people that enable folks to tackle lots of exciting new media stuff.
* The Exchange District, my favorite part of the city. Beautiful old buildings, windy streets, dank back alleys.

If you’re nearby, visit! Say hi! It’ll be cold! But fun!
