Announcing: Marian

Today we’d like to announce our main project, the one that got us all together as a team. To celebrate this official announcement, we’re releasing a small portion of Katie’s beautiful concept art for the game, with some accompanying concept music:

MP3 Download → Marian Medley [2:54]

“Marian” is a concept that we’ve been developing since August 2008 – inspired by our combined personal experiences. Our goal is to create a deep, meaningful, fun and moving experience. I also think we have a good shot at making one of the most beautiful 2D games, thanks to Katie.

Back in November we printed 100 promotional posters for Marian to hand out at the Montreal International Games Summit. Katie’s poster art was recently featured in Play’s “Girls of Gaming” magazine:

Printed in Girls of Gaming, is a description of the game:

“Marian is a beautifully carved marionette who rips her strings from the grasp of ‘The Narrator’ and becomes her own master. Caught in the dream world between life and death, she uses her own puppet handle as a weapon and replaces her limbs with a variety of tools in her quest to discover her true identity – and maybe even true love.”

Currently we’re focused on finishing our game “Heroes and Villains”, but we’re still planning and doing pre-production work on Marian in the meantime. One of the challenges with Marian (and many indie games) is funding. We have a few options available to us, and we’ll have to see if we can make them work. (fingers crossed)

P.S. If this is your first time visiting Infinite Ammo, welcome! We’d be delighted if you stuck around and followed along with our development updates. We try to show as much of the behind-the-scenes process as possible, without spoiling our games. Your comments, praise and criticisms are always welcome – feel free to add them below! Thanks for reading, and we all hope to see you again. :)

Pajama Jam #1 – Aquaria

Yes ladies and gentlemen, its time for Pajama Jam #1! What is a “Pajama Jam” you ask? No – its not that – get your mind out of the gutter. Its actually when you wake up in the morning, you’re still in your pajamas, and you sit down at the piano (or whatever your musical instrument is) and you just start playing and making it up as you go. There are no mistakes, you just play what’s in your heart at the moment. I decided to start recording some of my Pajama Jams for kicks. This first one features themes from Aquaria.

I’m looking forward to seeing your Pajama Jams as well as seeing what the rest of the IA team can come up with. Its not just limited to music… I bet Katie could jam out some pretty amazing art in her PJs, for example!

P.S. Aquaria was released on Steam recently, and its on sale for $16 until the end of the year. So if you haven’t picked it up yet, now is the time!

P.P.S. The Pajama Jam concept is spreading! Check the extended for some ‘Jams by our readers. :)

Heroes and Crunchtime

Here’s the latest screenshot from our progress on Heroes and Villains!

Heroes and Villains

Chris and I teamed up to put this together. I did some quick ‘n dirty 3d modelling, and Chris setup the scene with me and made some textures and particles. It was intense, because we were trying to finish for a deadline while I was busy with a bunch of Aquaria work! This probably doesn’t represent the final game’s style exactly, but it was still fun to put it together as a milestone.

Meanwhile, Ian was working on gameplay and our first prototype level. Things are progressing pretty quickly, even though we’re all insanely busy.

A big thanks goes out to Adam Saltsman who helped us plan out the best shot we could make based on the very limited assets that we had available. (Katie is lost at sea again)

P.S. There was a new video blog, but it ended up on the bit-blot site. You can check it out here.

As always, your feedback and critique is welcome and appreciated. :)

New Media Manitoba Xmas Party

We attended New Media Manitoba’s Christmas party last night, and it was pretty fun. Complex Games demoed their game “Pirates Ahoy” which is looking pretty solid. (and its also made with Unity) Other randomness and fun follows…

In the next blog you might actually see us work on some stuff. :3
