Another fine game that I got the pleasure of writing music for is Crayon Physics Deluxe. The game took the Grand Prize at the IGF last year, and its about to be released in a few days. There’s also an iPhone version already available. I can’t recommend it highly enough. Many games fall into the old pattern of forcing the player to overcome obstacles using very rigid rules. CPD gives you the freedom to solve each level however you want. This design decision is a very welcome gust of fresh air.
My track for the game is called “Afternoon Snooze”, and its based on my feelings of playing the game. (I was an IGF judge last year)

You can check out the rest of the music from CPD here – and buy Crayon Physics Deluxe when it comes out. You’ll love it.

I’ve been enjoying that song a lot in the CPD beta (and now the full version that Petri has been so kind as to send to us pre-orderers).
It’s really cool to hear that the song was inspired by your feelings from playing the game itself. I\’d also forgotten that Petri’s writing more about the game leading up to its launch, so thanks for the link!

I was watching the credits on my pre-order/pre-release version of CPD an hour ago and I was stunned when I saw your name pop up! You’ve made a fantastic track that lends a lot to this fantastic game. I love you for all your work in the Indie games scene!

Wow, I never knew you wrote music for that game too!

Great stuff man!
I really liked crayon physics, and I’ll probably get Deluxe fairly soon after its launched. Looking forward to it even more now.

Nice tune. The game makes you feel like a snooze? Probably not quite the right endorsement.

I don’t believe this coincidence; that you have wrote music for this (Finnish) game! And what a beautiful track it is as well. I have been following this game’s development closely, but this was new to me (should read carefully next time).
Developers: “I didn’t actually steal it, I just forced Alec to compose me a song for Crayon Physics Deluxe. Ever since I played Aquaria I’ve been a huge fan of both Derek and Alec, because they created such a beautiful game. So it was awesome that Alec was willing enough to do a song for the game. The name of the song is Afternoon Snooze”
