I was at a “brings your kids to work day” event here in Winnipeg, where I talked to some parents and students who are interested in game development. For their benefit I’m posting some links that might be helpful for those starting to get involved in game development.
Unity3D Game Engine http://unity3d.com
This engine recently became free. IA used it to create Paper Moon, H+V and we’re using it for a number of other projects as well. For more good indie games made with Unity see http://blurst.com
Unity is one of the best designed game tools because it is simple. You can create interactive 3D content without needing a computer science degree. Its fast and fun to prototype new gameplay in it.
I’d also like to start a course teaching the basics of Unity3D here in the city. If you’re interested, let me know! 
Paper Moon
If you played Paper Moon in the lab and want to play it again, there are actually two versions. One has stereoscopic 3D and is older, the other one has more levels and you can play it in your web browser. Check out our games page for the links.

Interested in writing music for games? FLStudio is an affordable program for Windows computers that is easy to get into. You can make really cool stuff in it, even though its not insanely expensive.
