After a couple of weeks of work, I’m finally happy with the Heroes + Villains logo. Woo! And to celebrate, we’ve released a brand new wallpaper! Feel free to gird your desktop with the following:

So I had to look “gird” up to see what it means. (obviously Lord Byron wouldn’t have to)
Apparently it can be used thusly:
gird (up) one’s loins prepare and strengthen oneself for what is to come.
This seems strangely appropriate given recent events.

Looks great with the exception of the plus sign, which makes the H look like a K and the V could be a V, U or demented Y. You wouldn’t know it was supposed to say “H+V” unless you already knew what the logo was for. Love the shape and the colours but the way the plus sign is done makes it hard to read. Just some honest feedback.

Hmm… maybe there’s some way to highlight the plus? (without it being overbearing)

looks sexy. though i agree about the H/K debacle i think you’d sacrifice some sexy for it… unless you just took it out all together. do you really need the +? ampersand? or just nothing at all and put in a subhead when you need to push the full name.
Hey guys, thanks for your input. I actually rather like obscuring the letters a tad and giving the logo a more abstract appearance on first glance. It seems to me that most simplistic logos, when placed on their own mean very little as opposed to viewing them in the larger context of the product or company they represent. I don’t necessarily think it helps that people see a clear “HV” at first glance, as it seems without the title “Heroes + Villains” it would mean next to nothing to them anyways. All of that said, I now have some doubts of my own, and I’m definitely seeing how the H can be mistaken for a K. If it’s causing a lot of confusion its definitely something to rethink. Anyone else feel that a different approach would be more effective?

While I like the vertical line of the plus symbol cutting through the letters, an actual plus sign (with a trim, maybe purple-ish) over where the current one would make it less confusing. I knew what the letters were for when I first saw it, but like others, looking at it again I can see how the background color cutting into the letters can through you off. Hell, you could always just go mighty morphin on its ass and slap a big’ol lightning bolt inbetween the letters

I agree that the plus needs to be a little bit more outstanding. Sure, I knew what the letters were supposed to be when I first looked at it, but it still took me a while to figure out what-was-what. Perhaps if the plus-sign had an off-white/yellow color to it it would be more distinguishable?

Looking very sleek. It doesn’t really matter what people who see the logo without knowing what the name of the game is think the letters are… They’ll be attracted by the look and find out the name in the end. I’m curious too, how long did the logo take you to make Mr. Lobay?

Judging from a Twitter entry made about three days ago, I’d say he last “nailed” the H+V logo 3 days ago. Of course, he was probably working on sketches and concepts before then, so the date is irrelevant in this case.

Try putting the H above the V. The + symbol will be automatically created by the negative space. You will need to raise the cross bar of the H above centre to balance the size and weight of the H and V though.
The word ‘gird’ is not really suitable in this context. The word charge, as in load and emblazon, would be better.
