Tutorial Tuesday: Schpooter!

IA’s Unity Tutorial Series continues with a game called “Schpooter!” This is a simple side-scrolling space shooter example, but it has been built to demonstrate a few different ways of using Unity.

Part 1 is an introduction to how the project file is set up.

In part 2 we’ll dive into how the scripts work! If you have any questions or comments, please leave them here or on YouTube. :)

If you find these tutorials useful, send the link to others that you think would be interested. Thanks!

Haven’t really dipped into Unity yet, but this looks like an excellent tutorial series. Also, props to a fellow Winnipegger making it in the game biz! :) I’m inspired.

I wish I could find an artist that’s proficient at Ragging so I can get some Skeleetal animations in my game.

Nice job on the tutorials. I had watched your previous one and decided that it was time to get Unity. It’s a really great platform and really easy to learn as well. Thanks once again!

Hi, I’m a fan of your games and I’m also a fellow Unity developer working on an Indie game (check my website for more info). Just wanted to say I am really enjoying your tutorial series, even though it is mostly refresher for me, I’m still learning a few good nuggets of wisdom with them so far. It’s always interesting to see how others approach similar problems and how others are using Unity for development. I’m looking forward to your next Tuesday Tutorial, we’re you skipping it this week because of the holiday season? Or is it just a bit late in coming out? Thanks, and keep up the great work!

Thank you so much for these tutorials! I really like that you are doing more than just talking about the mechanics of using Unity but also expressing core ideas of game development/ programming. I really look forward to your next tutorial!

I stumbled on to this as I am learning to use Unity and must say it is one of the BEST I have found for being clear and concise. Also much appreciation on the messaging portion you just grew my Unity capabilities by leaps and bound. Bravo!

Thanks for taking the time with these tutorials. I have Unity3d 3.4 and when I load this project I get the following errors in Messenger.js:

    Messenger.js(39,39): Error BCE0022: Cannot convert ‘Object’ to ‘System.Collections.ArrayList’. (BCE0022) (Assembly-UnityScript)

    Messenger.js(39,39): Error BCE0022: Cannot convert ‘Object’ to ‘System.Collections.ArrayList’. (BCE0022) (Assembly-UnityScript)

    Messenger.js(39,39): Error BCE0022: Cannot convert ‘Object’ to ‘System.Collections.ArrayList’. (BCE0022) (Assembly-UnityScript)

    Messenger.js(55,55): Error BCE0022: Cannot convert ‘Object’ to ‘UnityEngine.GameObject’. (BCE0022) (Assembly-UnityScript)

I am a novice programmer and cannot figure this out. Any ideas?
