Better late than never – here’s a picture of a little ancient photo album we put together to help us show off the art of the game…

This is the song that my sister Eileen and I wrote for Songs for the Cure – an indie fundraiser for cancer research. We recorded the piece at Private Ear Studios right here in Winnipeg. (behind the scenes)

Recording a very short snippet of voice over for Marian… in our uber high tech recording studio. (Note the USB microphone, cardboard box and pantyhose stretched over a hanger…) We’re working on a trailer for our current prototype, which may or may not be seen publicly.

We’ve been featuring Katie’s work a fair bit in the last while, but our other concept artist – Ashley Dumonchelle, has been doing a ton of great work at a very quick pace for the last few months. When we need to build a new reusable object into the game, the first step is having Ashley sketch out a number of interesting options. From there, we pick the ones we like and move on into modelling.

Ashley has a great eye for interesting shapes, in my humble opinion. The final art style of Marian may end up being an interesting fusion of Ashley’s shapes and Katie’s colours.

Next week we’ll take a little peak at how some of these models get made and what they look like in the game…

Songs for the Cure is a caner fundraising initiative organized by Josh Whelchel. (the composer behind BoneSaw, and The Spirt Engine games) SftC is a compilation of new tracks from a wide variety of game-related composers. Last year’s CD felt like an explosion of untamed creativity.

This year’s disc is likely to be an even more varied compilation. For information about how to receive a copy of the CD, visit http://CancerDrive.org.

What is Gamma?

Gamma is a game party/show that features about 5-7 different games each year. The theme is different every time. Last year’s was games that use stereoscopic 3D, which gave birth to Paper Moon. The year before that was games that use a resolution of 256×256 or lower, which gave birth to Célu.

This year’s theme is 1-button games, but you can have up to 4 players.

Tons of people are entering this year – it’ll be interesting to see what comes out of it.
